Charlton came out on top over Bolton last night with the Marcus Bent putting the Addicks on top. An important win for Charlton to ease pressure on the team after a series of dreadful results over this season.

Interview with Andy Reid.

An interview with Ireland International Andy Reid is now available the official website.

He arrived in SE7 without any pre-season games under his belt having suffered a knee injury, and as a result has been forced to get fit in the team, much like his former teammate Murphy had done following his move to Charlton.

Reid said: "I'm delighted that I've been given the opportunity to get fit in first-team competitive games - and I've been lucky enough to get 70 minutes in a European Championship qualifier with the Republic of Ireland as well which also helped massively.

"It's not easy to go in and play competitive Premier League football against some of the best players in the world but I'd rather do that than spend afternoons running around the training ground. And I feel that with every game I play I'm getting a lot fitter and I feel like I'm influencing the games more and more.

Charlton v Watford.


After a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fulham on Monday night. Saturdays game against Watford is a must win for Charlton. The fans are desperately waiting for the Addicks to kick start their season and move away from that bottom position of the table. A series of injuries had plagued the team and now with a healthy squad, a win at the valley is a must.

Fulham v Charlton

Tonights game against Fulham is a must win for Ian Dowies men. The team is nearly back to full squad after several of the players that have been out due to injury set to feature.

Betfair are offering about 4.5 / 1 on a Charlton win and I think this is a good bet. Charlton have a lot to play for tonight. Only 3 points collected and currently sitting at the bottom of the table doesn’t do the fans or the team any confidence.

A big thanks to Charlton Athletic Football club for allowing us purchase tickets for this weekends game at the Valley. While it was a defeat for the home team it did end up been a great football game. Both sides played well and instilled confidence in the home fans that Charlton can play well against the better teams.

The table shows us at the bottom but what it doesn’t show is that we have played the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and an inform Portsmouth and Aston Villa. While this is no excuse for any manager, this with a list of injuries can count for a lot.


Saturdays game will be forever marked in football history for a dramatic second goal from Robben van Persie that sealed Charlton’s fate along with putting his name on the record sheets for an excellent goal.

Some notable moments from the game:

1st half saw Jimmy Floyd pass a nice cross along the goal to Darren Bent who put Charlton on the score sheet. It looked off side from where I was sitting but this referee wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed for this game.

Arsenal always looked like they were going to score. Scrappy defensive work from the home team saw van Persie put his name on the score sheet after 32minutes.

49 minutes on the clock saw Van Persie take his volley from mid air. What a shot and what a pleasure to be in the stand to see it.


The referee: The referee on this game had a poor performance, he wasn’t on Charltons side and equally wasn’t for Arsenal either. The crowd were very frustrated by his choices and he didn’t allow the game flow naturally. A handball by Gallas in the second half went un noticed at the same time some hard tackles by Charlton equally went by the way side.

Hasselbaink messed up big at the end when he missed a total sitter heading the ball wide. From looking at the replay on tv, if he left the ball alone, Bent was behind him and could have slotted it in.

The table looks something like the following. It looks bad for the Addicks but hoping that this is the worst of it over by now.

Charlton V Arsenal September 30th

Tickets for the upcoming Arsenal game will go on sale this Monday September 11th to those have have previously been to a game. So becuase I was at the Bolton game 2 weeks ago i am hoping to be able to get a ticket here.

Charlton v Bolton... 26th August 2006

Saturday August 26th saw Chalton play just their second home game of the season at the Valley.

On this day new signing Ireland International Andy Reid lined out with number 5th. The team line out looked strong and this was certainly going to be a tough game for both parties.

The game started out well and as the clocked ticket down one thing definitely was beginning to annoy the home fans - Kevin Davies number 14 for Bolton. A high elbow on Hreidarsson saw Kevin Davies get off without a card from the referee and the home crowd did not feel this was justice. But this was only to be the start it.

At the 29th minute the tides turned, Hreidarsson leapt up for a high header and lead with his elbow, straight red card from busy referee Mike Dean. The home fans were not impressed. I have been to many home games last season and have never seen or heard the fans so vocal. Kevin Davies had not heard the last of this from the fans.

The game continued with a 10 man Charlton take on an attacking Bolton. The team looked to be leaving 2 up front but Jimmy floyed hanged back a bit in Midfield. Ambrose was substitutes for Kisishev who took a defensive role. I thought the 10 men played very well and was expecting a goal for the home team until 58 minutes in when Bolton's Diouf fell to the ground and a penalty was award against the home team. The home fans once again were not impressed at this action by the referee.

Scott Carson was the hero with a great penalty save from Diouf he dived to the right. The roar from the home crowd was something else would send shivers up your spine. This was justice and this game was not Charlton's for the taking. Davies who later was to be sent off was booed out of every ball. I saw him get the ball at one stage in front of me and the crowed just starting shouting at him, he stumbled and lost the ball. It was obvious that this was effecting his play. Davies was dismissed on the 72nd minute after a similar high elbow incident. He should have been sent off for the first one.


A penalty was awarded to Charlton in the 57 minute after Darren Bent went to ground. He took his shot excellently well and lets just say a new type of roar emerged from the crowd.

To wrap the game home Bent scored again in the 87th minute with a great flick from Hasslebaink.

Hibs 3 Charlton 2

Charlton Athletic provided the final pre-season test for Tony Mowbray’s side, and in the event it was a very useful workout for both the Premiership and SPL side. Charlton were quick off the mark and caught Hibs cold when they went ahead courtesy of the first real attack of the game, the English side going further ahead while Hibernian struck woodwork twice. A superb strike however from Scott Brown set the game up for an interesting second half….

Charlton were first to break forward but Hogg was quick enough to cut out an Ambrose cross before Konde cleared, but after just three minutes Charlton opened the scoring. Thomas played the ball wide to Rommedahl, who in turn lifted a superb return pass at chest height for Hasselbank who cushioned the ball down before shooting across Malkowski and into the far corner of the net.

Bent admits World Cup frustration:


Charlton striker Darren Bent has revealed his helplessness at having to watch on holiday while England endured problems in attack at the World Cup.

He was omitted from the squad and was a frustrated onlooker as injured Michael Owen's exit left England struggling.

Bolton Wanderers 15.00

Today I was able to purchase two tickets for Charltons second home game against Bolton Wanderers. Got good tickets, middle of the pitch. This should be a good battle between the both. Bolton typically have a better run of the season than Charlton do, but ya never know by the time this game happens big sam might be the new Aston Villa manager...

Barcelona have signed up Juventus players Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta.

Defender Thuram has signed a two-year deal with the Spanish champions while Italian World Cup winner Zambrotta has put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

I wonder how come none of the premierships clubs have swooped in for any othe Juve or the other relegated teams players. I reckon Charlton should keep an eye out, they could pick someone up on a loan deal for a year.

The idea behind The Irish Addicks is to try and get a supporters club going for Charlton Athletic Football Club in Ireland. (I am not aware on one existing at the moment, if there is google is lying to me:) Not trying to step on anyones toes, so if one exists let me know)

Premiership football in ireland is very popular and many people support the higher up teams. I myself was a good Arsenal fan until I saw the light at my first Charlton v Middlesboro game last year.

I keep uptodate regulary with the club and travel over to see the games when I can get tickets when they come on general sale.
